Skill Based Opportunities

Program Title: Skill / Knowledge Based Volunteering


Program Description: We are looking for volunteers to assist our Social Service team through a variety of different forms of support that tap into specific skill sets, abilities, and knowledge! As an organization that seeks to help individuals gain self-sufficiency, knowledge based initiatives and the support of provide a hugely beneficial impact for our clients in the long term. An example of some of these workshops include English language, nutrition, professional development, financial literacy, and childcare support. 


Volunteers involved in these opportunities will have significantly more autonomy while requiring significantly more accountability to assist. While volunteers will complete, if not assist with the curriculum planning, involvement in such will require a minimum level of skill or knowledge related to the support in addition to formal vetting. All volunteers participating in these opportunities will need to complete a background check in advance of assisting.

Jobs Offered: While we are always interested in adding new skill / knowledge based initiatives, some of the skill based volunteering we currently offer is as follows:

  • ESL Instructor
  • Professional Development (Bilingual)
  • Life & Wellness (Bilingual)
  • Financial Literacy (Bilingual)


Opportunity Requirements:

  • All volunteers participating in these opportunities need to be aged 18+ or older and successfully complete our background check
  • All opportunities (with the exception of ESL Instruction) require full English/Spanish bilingual fluency
  • Given the client interaction occurring, all volunteers will need to have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with others with all different backgrounds
  • Previous experience working to assist low-income individuals, immigrants, refugees, or survivors of domestic abuse/sexual assault/trauma is preferred 


Commitment:

  • All of these opportunities are medium to long term commitments; individuals participating are highly encouraged to continue assisting until at least the completion of the initiative
  • These opportunities will almost always occur on weekdays during business hours with an ability to join in-person needed
  • Scheduling and frequency will depend on the specific opportunity assisting within
  • Participation on a monthly basis can range from one to four days needed for a couple hours when joining


Technology Needed: No technology is needed to be brought but ability to use technology (computer, phone, Internet) can be beneficial to the support provided
